Most people are aware that open source is an option that they should be considering. But there are a lot of open source projects out there: our last count on sourceforge, of projects with more than 80% activity, was 44,000 !
SAP Research says that the number of open source projects is doubling every 14 months.
Talk about Moore's Law for software!
How do you find the right technology in all of that. Sourceforge is only one source of open source product listings. The OHLOH directory is also very popular. But then Freshmeat has been around for a long time too. And have you looked at osalt ? Not to mention the blogs.
Then you have to sort through the relevance and quality of each. Then download, test and check out the support forums to make sure that there is some momentum behind this project. And what about licence issues ?

We can respond instantly to new demands and still keep costs to an absolute minimum.
Technology Views and Research
We are very open about our views on software. We love good software and we detest software that is all marketing and no delivery. A bit like Simon Cowell or Jeremy Clarkson in that regard.
The Technology Articles section allows you to read our views and see what we have found in using open source at customers across EMEA.
We are also working with a couple of BA graduates at a leading London Business School on projects comparing, for example, open source ERP solutions to traditional offerings. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you would like to know more.
Custom Search
A typical Google search is often too generalised. Open Business Associates pays for a custom Google search which you will find at the bottom right of every page on our site.
If you are looking for an open source version of anything at all then that is a good place to start.
Beyond the Ordinary
A typical comment from customers who first start looking at open source goes something along the lines of : "There cannot possibly be an open source ERP system that people are actually using?" Yes, there are, several in fact. And we can point you to companies that turn over a lot of money on those systems.
There is a lot more to open source than you might think. The two examples below are out on the edges but nothing is impossible so talk to use before you go ahead with your next project.
3D Animated Graphics
Imagine what your corporate communications could look like. And it's open source !
Web Desktop Interactivity
Why have a desktop when you can have a desk in space. This is only one of the many projects taking web interactivity to the next level.
Or check out Adobe AIR for the leading edge of web and desktop interactivity.
